Data Recovery from SSD Drives

SSD data recovery

SSD drives (Solid State Drives) do not equip with moving mechanical parts but store data in an electronic manner on the integrated circuits in their PCBs.

Their operation, philosophy, and architecture are completely different than that of the conventional hard drives.

In any case, we recover data from all types of SSD storage media with success rates that exceed 96%.

It is worth noting that SSD drives come in various forms (M.2, NVMe, PCI-e, etc.), but they are based on FLASH technology, which has implications for their reliability. In recent years, the technology itself has significantly improved both in reliability and speed, but it still exhibits past issues.

These issues primarily concern the quality of electronic components (controller, NAND chips, various ICs) that stop functioning without any warning and often much earlier than their predicted lifespan.
Thus, we encounter SSD drives that are still under warranty and are … brain dead. Phison SSD Data Recovery

In the case of cheap, poor-quality electronic components, even if we “resurrect” the drive to access its data, the poor quality will not allow us to achieve the desired result as we will face a massive number of Bit/ECC errors.

Additionally, SSD drives have a feature called TRIM, which is essentially integrated into the drives by the manufacturers to maintain the health of the data cells for as long as possible. When TRIM receives a simple file deletion command, it removes the file from the drive’s translator, making its recovery impossible as the address is lost. We have found a solution to this problem and can now recover data even from formatted drives!

At Northwind Data Recovery, we have devised methods that help us under certain conditions, achieving better results compared to the competition.

It is no surprise that we are the only company in the world that can recover Sandforce SSD drives with success rates reaching 100%!
It is no coincidence that we are among the first companies in the world to find a solution and support the SM2258XT and SM2259XT drives long before commercial software announced support.
It is no surprise that we almost daily successfully handle SSD drives that other “recovery labs” deemed “unrecoverable.”
